Great Pretender Anime Review - A Great Con-Man Story

Great Pretender is a con artist based anime produced by 2020 Wit Studio. Ryouta Kosawa wrote the series, and Hiro Kaburagi, who also directed 91 Days and Welcome to the N.H.K., helmed the production. Netflix was the first to air episodes of the anime. Despite his best efforts, Makoto Edamura has had a rough go. His father's conviction for child trafficking coincided with the passing of his mother. Makoto was not particularly talented, so he turned to petty theft to support himself. Makoto's miracle filters, popular among housewives, are sold at exorbitant prices. He also offers "miracle teas" that are said to have curative powers over any condition. Once, he stole a purse from the blonde, blue-eyed outsider Laurent Thierry, though everything went downhill. He sees great potential in Makoto and wants to recruit him for his Hollywood team. If Makoto does not accept Laurent's terms, he will be arrested and jailed in Japan.

The artists were able to make backgrounds that were colorful but not cheap looking. Amazing stylistic and narrative originality guarantees nonstop fun. The characters have beautiful designs that are easy to remember and go well with who they are. Wit Studio never stops surprising people with how good they are, but after how good they were in Shingeki no Kyojin, it might be hard to surprise people again. But they will always do their own thing, even if the animation is so smooth and the style stays the same. The sound quality was excellent throughout. Everything about it was refreshing and forward-thinking, with the ending in particular.

Great Pretender Characters

Makoto Edamura, the protagonist, claims to be Japan's best con artist. His unpredictable actions can disrupt the flow of any con. He is a dull protagonist who comes to life when surrounded by con artists. But the show would not be as interesting without Makoto's transformations. All of our other characters did a wonderful job. Each member of the main crew had their own personality, reasons for becoming a swindler, and reasons to get back at the rich, the people who took everything they ever had and everything they ever wanted. The gang leader is a man named Laurent Thierry, someone who does not make errors easily. In the final act, his history is revealed. Then there is Abigail Jones, who has a sad background. Because of Makoto's no-nonsense outlook on life, our heroes have no choice but to change and adapt. Everyone in this band of heroes is interesting individually and as a unit. But, I can't say that I liked the villains. They are mostly childish and obvious bad guys without any good background.

Is Great Pretender Worth Watching

There is an abundance of unique characters that can cater to a variety of preferences. The initial draft of the script, which was written in line with the norms and standards that are prevalent in the industry, and a smooth progression from one arch to the next with an atmosphere that is both rich and varied. A satisfying distribution of comedic moments, exciting sequences, and dramatic climaxes throughout the story. The aural and visual components, taken together, are of the highest possible standard. Considering all this, Great Pretender is an anime that I can definitely recommend.
